The Martinez Spritz

Before the Martini there was the Martinez.  Professor Jerry Thomas takes claim to the drink publishing his recipe in 1887. It is a combination of Gin, Sweet Vermouth, Maraschino liqueur and bitters.  Today we have taken his concept and adapted it into a Spritz.  It is a refreshing take on the original and great as an aperitif or sunny day sipper at lunch or brunch.

The Martinez Spritz

In a tall glass filled with ice add:

• 1 Ounce London Dry Gin
• ½ Ounce Punt e Mes Vermouth
• ¼ Ounce Luxardo Maraschino Liqueur
• 1 Dash Orange Bitters

Top with club soda and stir to combine ingredients.  Garnish with a generous wedge of orange dropped right into the glass.
