Stout & Stormy

 

With the cool weather upon us, our crew has been experimenting with stout beer as a cocktail ingredient. We came across a number of renditions of the Stout & Stormy cocktail. Its concept is simple enough, combine the Dark and Stormy with Stout beer. But what style of stout and in what proportions? Then there is the rum and ginger elements to consider. We tinkered with a number of combinations and have come up with what we think is the perfect Stout & Stormy that has nice richness and a bit of punch. The Stout we landed on as the foundation of the cocktail is Founders Brewing Breakfast Stout. It is a Double Chocolate Coffee Oatmeal Stout that carries all the other flavors in the glass perfectly.  Cheers!  

 

Stout & Stormy

In a pint glass filled ½ way with ice add:

  • 2 Ounces Goslings Black Seal Rum
  • 1 Ounce Ginger Syrup*
  • ¼ Ounce Fresh Squeezed Lime Juice

Stir to combine.  Slowly Pour Founders Brewing Breakfast Stout to Fill the Pint.  Gently Stir and Enjoy.

 

*Ginger Syrup

In a small sauce pan add:

  • 1/2 Cup Light Brown Sugar
  • 1/2 Cup Water
  • ¼ Cup Peeled and Diced Ginger Root

Slowly bring to a boil stirring, reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes.   Strain through a fine sieve into a sterile glass bottle.   (will keep 7-10 days in the refrigerator)
