From the pages of the Esquire Handbook for Hosts (1949) we bring you the Marconi Wireless. Best accounts say it was first offered at the Bull and Bear bar in the Waldorf-Astoria hotel around 1912, paying homage to Marconi for his contributions in the pioneering of radio communications. Regardless, it is a drink that has been all but forgotten yet on tasting, is most worthy of note. We found it while in search of fall cocktails employing Laird’s Apple Jack. It is a simple variation on the Manhattan that delivers a delightful appley twist on the original. Looking for a new fall favorite? Grab a bottle of Laird’s and give the Marconi Wireless a shot.

Gently stir to chill then stain into a chilled stemmed cocktail coupe. Though no garnish is suggested we like a twist of orange peel. |
