Great Deal on a 91 Point Brunello …. Drink it like you Stole it
Have you ever heard of Italy’s “Three B’s”? We’re talking about the most prestigious zip codes in their winemaking culture. They stand for Barolo, Barbaresco and of course .. Brunello. The first two are notoriously structured wines which require patience & cellaring, while the latter of this trio is the most ‘accessible’ wine in terms of its early appeal. Which is why demand for it never seems to relent.
Why is Brunello so sought after? The rolling hills of Montalcino are home a unique clone of Tuscany’s signature varietal. Sangiovese Grosso is a larger grape than that which can be found in Chianti – and the character found in the resulting wines can be described as just that: larger, more powerful & slower maturing. This is also reflected in the aging requirements of the region. DOCG Law dictates Brunello must age a minimum of 5 years, of which oak aging must be at least 24 months, and bottle aging of 4 months; prior to release.
Normally, we see Brunello start at $40 and quickly climb up from there yet today’s offer is a stunning exception to this economic norm. The 2018 Lorenzo Melani Brunello di Montalcino comes to us in very limited quantity for a humble $30/btl. How you ask? Our relationship is directly with the Importer for this producer and we’re able to shave out a few people between the winery & You! Netting you a fantastic bottle of Tuscany’s marquee appellation – for a song of a price! The only problem, we have a very short supply and once it’s gone, it’s not coming back. |
