Bodegas Borsao Garnacha

It’s easy to spend big money on proven winners, in fact … it’s often the reason established houses command it.  They know you won’t be let down no matter the vintage and that’s worth money in and of itself.  Consistency is key in the wine business, but so is delivering ‘value’.  One winery managing to do both at a very high level is Bodegas Borsao in Spain’s Campo de Borja region.  A zone just south of Rioja that always seemed to live in it’s shadow.

Established in the late 1950’s by a large number of landowners pooling together their resources to form a co-operative winery.  Since inception the mission has been simple; make exceptional wines each harvest with an emphasis on value.  Consistently they’ve delivered on their mandate, yet it wasn’t until the early 2000s they would break through the worldwide marketplace in force.  When international markets realized there is far more to Spain than Rioja & Ribera del Duero.  As a company, we first enjoyed their wines 20 years ago and we continue to be blown away at their quality to price ratio with each passing release.

In fact, Robert Parker once declared, "My favorite value winery not only in Spain, but in the world, is Bodegas Borsao." in issue #226 of the Wine Advocate.

Today’s wine is a remarkable example of consistent quality at a jaw-dropping price.  Bodegas Borsao’s Garnacha has just landed in our stores with a glowing 91 Point review from James Suckling, priced at just $9.99 per bottle.  That is not a typo … this wine is priced to move!
