Allegheny Cocktail

Today’s clever cocktail pay homage to the first moonshiners that crossed the Allegheny Mountains to settle in what today is Bourbon County.  It is a simple concoction that delivers a delightfully strong palate with just enough sweetness to round the edges.  Important to the drink is the quality of Blackberry Brandy.  It is no small feat to find a good Blackberry Brandy among the shelves of artificially flavored cordials.  We have altered the recipe slightly to use Giffard Crème de Mure, a Blackberry liqueur of exceptional quality.  In a pinch, old school Leroux Polish Blackberry Brandy will do but the results will not be quite as good.

Allegheny Cocktail

In a shaker glass filled with ice add:

• 1 Ounce Bourbon
• 1 Ounce Dry Vermouth (We like Dolin De Chambery Dry)
• 1 1/2 Ounces Blackberry Brandy/Liqueur (We use Giffard Crème de Mure)
• 1 1/2 Teaspoons Lemon Juice

Shake and strain into a chilled cocktail coupe.  Garnish with a spear of blackberries or lemon twist.
